Magrath is a “Garden City,” so named after the Utopian movement of the late 19th century.
The Galt Canal diversion works here became a National Historic Site...in 1899!
The canal, between Magrath and Stirling, was, at the time, the largest irrigation project in Canada.
Many of the earliest Mormon settlers were sent here to build it.
